Instant replay begins in ballparks tonight.  This is a much talked about and debated issue.  Some say it delays the game, it is nontraditional, and it will expand beyond home run calls.  Others say why not take advantage of the technology and correct a controversial call.  This new procedure will not get utilized too much as these plays are rare, but there have been quite a few controversial calls over the past few years that were game changing (We all remember the Jeff Maier play off Derek Jeter’s bat in the 1996 ALCS that allowed the Yankees to tie the score).  These plays are difficult for umpires to get right since they are 200 ft away.  Mike Rhyner and Corby Davidson of The Ticket were both questioning the timing of this since it is happening in the middle of the season.  I admit it is a little odd and out of the ordinary, but I do not think there is anything wrong with this if it is ready to be implemented, especially to get it ready for the playoffs.  I for one am tired of seeing these game changing calls blown, and the umpire admitting he made a mistake after the game is over.  Besides, you cannot blame an umpire for not getting this call right when he is in no position to call it.

Few more notes….Eddie Guardado got moved to the Twins earlier this week for Mark Hamburger.  Not exactly a high-ceiling prospect, but definitely has a shot at making it to the big leagues as a late-inning reliever.  Hamburger will report to Clinton A.

Millwood threw his second complete in a row Tuesday night.  Last time a Ranger accomplished that feat was when Darren Oliver did it in 1998.  Great that Millwood did it to get is value up and to give the bullpen some rest.  Millwood and Padilla both passed through waivers so they could potentially be traded to a contending team in need of some starting pitching depth.

Rangers play in Anaheim tonight with McCarthy making his second start of the season.  Though out of contention, I would still like to see Texas starters go deep into games against the Angels.  If you plan on being up late tonight you can catch the Rangers 9:05 start.
