It’s a secret no longer, Greg “The Hammer” Williams is back on the air. Most sports fans in Dallas recognize his work from The Hardline, the afternoon drive show on “SPORTS” Radio 1310 The Ticket. Much has been made of his exit from The Ticket in October of 2007 (you can read about it here) and many wondered if Greggo would show up again in the Dallas market.
In May, Greggo appeared on Mike Doocy’s Sports Sunday show and teased his return to the Dallas media “sometime real soon.”
Real soon is here.
Greggo has joined RJ “Spare Me Sometimes” Choppy to form ESPN 103.3’s Gamenight duo.
I’ll be honest, it’s hard to listen to Greggo without Mike Rhyner (his former counterpart on The Hardline and Petty Theft frontman). For those of us who grew up listening to the two of them together, hearing Greggo and anyone else is going to take some time.
One interesting thing I’ve noticed about the new show is Williams’ attempt to bring the “drop” to ESPN. As explained by Grubes in July, The Ticket drop is a “fartform” and Grubes, the Fartist. ESPN shows have tried this juvenile behavior before but have yet to master it. We’ll see if Gamenight can produce the great Greggo drops we’ve come to know and love.

i voted “no” but honestly, if the top ten is on commercial, i’ll flip over. i would, however, choose the top ten over anything on ESPN radio

I’ll admit that I listen to “The Hammer” when I’m in the car between 7-10 (or whenever he’s on)….I view it better than the alternative of the DP Show. However, when faced with Ticket competition, I’ll always defer to The Ticket. If Greggo ever tries to force his way into competition between the Musers, BaD Radio, and/or The Hardline, he’ll lose this audience (mainly me). As the saying goes, “The name on the front is more important than the name on the back”. I’m not sure if that applies, and if it doesn’t, pretend it does. It makes sense in my head. Long live the Hardline…….

I just can’t listen to RJ Choppy. The guy is an ESPN substitute.
