Summer is here and by now every Dallas sports fan is salivating for real football — so much so that many will search for those unbelievably terrible NFL Europa games to get them through these very hot months, but to no avail.

NFL Europa began in 1991 as the World League of American Football, with 10 teams competing in the United States and Europe. After a two-year hiatus (1993-94) following the 1992 season, the league returned in 1995 as a six-team, all-European venture, with five teams in Germany since 2005, and has existed in that format through its final season in 2007.

That is why I’ve decided now is the time to quench the thirst of fans.  We will not be dehydrated this summer.  For we are about to answer the “questian” that’s been on ours, and our dad’s, mind since birth: which super bowl winning team would win in a five-week season played out online?  Please, if you’re not into video game-like simulation don’t read any further.  But if you’re into any type of summer football stimulation, your partner awaits.

So, without further adieu, Week One results:

Despite being down by 10 points early, the 1972 Cowboys rode their workhorse backs to a victory.  Walt Garrison and Calvin Hill combined for 164 yards rushing on 36 attempts and two touchdowns.  While Craig Morton tried to give the game away by throwing three crucial interceptions, the ‘72 defense just wouldn’t let Staubach, Pearson, or Dorsett get going, keeping each below season averages.

Once again another 10 point lead vanished.  While putting together the best individual performance so far this season and earning game MVP, ‘94 Emmitt Smith couldn’t find the end zone in the second half.  And as the ‘93 Dallas defense was forcing field goal after field goal the offense was scoring seven.   The fleet-footed ‘93 Aikman scampered away from an out of position James Washington to score the go ahead touchdown with less than two minutes to go in the third quarter.  Eddie Murray added some breathing room in the fourth and the 1993 Cowboys open the season 1-0.

The ‘92, ‘93 and ‘95 Cowboys won Super Bowls. The ‘94 Cowboys lost to S.F. in the NFC Championship game.

This is true. But the website uses the year the Super Bowl was played.

I think that you should go off the actual season and not the website years. It makes it too confusing and you won’t have to defend yourself against Dan. Is that Dan McDowell, the sports humorist?

    McDowell’s in a psych ward.

I believe that Dan is from the Shire.
