With one week remaining in the regular season two of our champions have already played (and watched) their way into the Super Super Bowl. Week four results:

Mounting a 4th quarter comeback wasn’t easy against the ‘95 Dallas defense, but ‘71 Roger Staubach’s touchdown to Lance Alworth with less than two mintues to play meant the ‘71 Dallas Cowboys defense had to stop the triplets one last time to force overtime. They couldn’t. With no time left on the clock Chris Boniol’s 25 yard field goal split the uprights to give the ‘95 Dallas Cowboys their their first win of the year.

‘93 Emmitt Smith did what he always does; 20 carries for 137 yards. ‘77 Dorsett had his best game of the season but teamate Robert Newhouse proved to be ineffective, averaging 1.67 yards per carry. The game… boring. That is until the 4th quarter when the lead changed hands three times until ‘93 Jimmy Johnson gambled by bringing ‘93 Eddie Murray out with 18 seconds left on the clock to attempt a 54 yard field goal. The old man put it through ending the ‘77 Dallas Cowboys hopes of being the Best “America’s Team.”
Standing heading into the final week:

here’s the reality. the ’90s teams will always beat the teams from the ’70s because the athletes are bigger, faster, stronger. somehow, it’s playing out like that in cyberspace as well.

Or maybe they’re better….

I think there is a bias against the ’70’s Cowboys…
Don’t hate Roger and the ‘boys!

OK, here’s the deal…
the 90’s teams were bigger, stronger, faster. they also had off season training programs, more coaches and trainers, better equipment and football was the career of choice for most of the players.
the 70’s teams were dominant in their era(s) w/o all of the big boys up front. Landry had a 265lb weight limit on his linemen - unheard of today. Also the 70’s teams didnt have the off season programs, ota’s, and mini camps. they showed up at training camp and got ready to play. that is the way the game was played back then. most of the players had other careers- football was a way to earn good money while getting established in a real job.
the 70’s teams shouldn’t be penalized for being what they were, just like you shouldn’t penalize the ‘95 team for having switzer as coach.
maybe the 70’s teams should have a little head start???

Joe, sounds like a case of the “Good ‘Ol Days” Syndrome. Which I completely understand. The ’70s ‘Boys were just a hair before my time which is why I’ll contend that the ’90s version is the best.
However, had I had Sports Consciousness in the ’70s, I’m quite sure I’d be in your boat. Regardless, Go Cowboys! We can all hold hands.
