Lets take a second to talk about the beating that is the month of July for a sports fan. This is the one month out of the year that there is nothing to keep us motivated to finish the work day, no escape from the wife’s random chores, no safe haven when nothing else seems to be going right. The NBA Championship has just wrapped up, Sports Illustrated is well into their bit to sell you the latest Stanley Cup Championship memorabilia, and it is a full month until the begin training camp.

All we are left with is some baseball games that don’t really mean anything due to the ridiculously long season that they play (of course I may just be bitter because my are losing 7-0 right now). You would think that someone could rotate some things around a couple weeks here and there to give us 12 months of meaningful sporting action, because aside from the meaningless baseball game, well, we got nothing.

So, with the baron land of sport quickly approaching, here is my list of things that I will do to get me through the month without meaningful sporting activity

  1. Water Sports - lets be honest, is there anything better than being on the lake surrounded by a group of friends? I think not.
  2. Re-watching Recorded Games - there is something about popping in an old VHS tape and taking a trip down memory lane. If you put the 2002 matchup between the University of Texas and Texas Tech University on repeat I’m not sure I would ever stop watching it.
  3. Head to The Temple to watch the - sure, the value of that game is pretty low when you look at the whole season, but it is still fun to grab a seat and an ice cream sandwich.
  4. Pound my head against a wall repeatedly.
  5. Plan the 2008 Office Olympics - given my new employment status and amount of space I have to work with, it would be a crime to not come up with some sort of competition to pass the time

So with that I challenge our fellow readers to break the mold this summer and get creative with how to bridge “The Great Gap”. I encourage you to share your creative ideas in the ‘comments’ section on this post.
