Terrell OwensUntil last night, I had only been to two Cowboys games, which both happened to be 40+ point blowouts at the hands of the on completely separate Thanksgiving days (We give thanks…that this game is finally over).  So as I sat in section 2, row 28, seat 114 and took in the sights and sounds for the first time in awhile, I began seeing the Cowboys in a different light. The game unfolded before my eyes like a fast motion video of clouds passing or a ocean sunrise (also in fast motion…the game is just really fast okay?)  Simply put, it was beautiful.

Unfortunately though, I’ve never had the football smarts that some of my friends do.  My knowledge extends about as far as NCAA on Xbox will take me, in addition to quarterbacking a flag football team where my audibles consisted of the different combinations I could make with a Double QuarterPounder value meal (No Onion! Sesame Seed right!  Extra Cheese! HUT).

All this to say, the things I noticed last night are probably pretty obvious and basic, nonetheless, I feel they are important to share with the world wide web.  So with no further adieu I give you my “TOP 3 OBVIOUS, BUT STILL IMPORTANT DETAILS OF THE COWBOYS/EAGLES GAME”.

1. I want more Felix Jones.

I was lucky enough to be sitting behind the endzone that Felix was running towards on his 98-yard kickoff return, and seeing him break through that hole was magical.  His breakaway speed continues to astound me, and I am becoming increasingly more excited about this first round pick.  The next logical step is to start introducing him as more of a conventional change of pace back (and to stop running the idiotic fake handoff reverse play they tried 3 times).

2.  Brian Westbrook is the most underrated player in the entire NFL.

I have never seen anyone outside the quarterback position that influences the defensive scheme the way this guy does.  Obviously he gets a lot of touches (24 in 64 offensive plays).  But that doesn’t come close to all the plays that were run just through his mere presence on the field a la misdirections and play actions.  Wonder why the Cowboys d-line couldn’t get any pressure on Donovan McNabb for 3 and a half quarters?  They were so concerned about letting Westbrook sneak behind them that they constantly stayed at home allowing McNabb sometimes as many as 8 seconds of free time to find an open receiver.  Westbrook didn’t even play his best game tonight, and he still had 3 touchdowns.

3. I will miss Texas Stadium

The new stadium will be much too expensive to ever attend a game, and I will probably catch every Cowboys game for the rest of my life from the comfort of a living room.  While this is not a huge disappointment, there is something very special about beating the hated Eagles, on a Monday night, at home, and being able to wave your keys to the annoying fan behind you (Ray), who has lost his voice trying to get in the head of Marion Barber. Including, but not limited to, “enjoy the 20 hour drive back!”, “man it sucks you wasted all your money to watch your team lose”, and best of all “are you sure you don’t want me to take a picture of you under our Super Bowl banners?”

postscript: Did the ESPN analysts mention TO’s stretch at the “finishline” on his 72 yard touchdown reception?  I want to be the first to officially announce that I wholeheartedly believe the much anticipated 100m dash between and TO will take place during the offseason.

Another play that doesn’t get much mention by our other first round pick was Jenkins’ deflection in the first half. Huge play.

It was one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen and unfortunately had to watch it from the comforts of a living room on a not so comfortable couch. Anyway, it is clear that Felix Jones is incredibly talented. I would also like to see him more and have him relieve Marion Barber because at the rate he’s going, he will last about two-and-a-half more seasons.

On a side note. As much as I don’t like Donovan McNabb, he was great last night. What would that team be like if they still had T.O. Anyone? Anyone?

they would be the cowboys… a team with a really great offense, but a still really sucky defense.
