In a somewhat shocking turn of events, over the last 48 hours Texas Tech All-Everything receiver Michael Crabtree had the remainder of his college career put in jeopardy. While all of the specifics have not been released, and there is no reason they should be, I can confirm that a website was created to promote Crabtree, possibly on his quest to bring Texas Tech its first Heisman Trophy. The content of the website was not the questionable issue, it was the fact that advertisement opportunities were being sold.
When Crabtree informed Texas Tech’s compliance department, he was told that it was a violation of NCAA regulations and that the site should not be published. However, the site had already gone live. Texas Tech reported the issue to the NCAA immediately to clear any wrongdoing and to show that they are committed to running a clean program.
A representative for Texas Tech, Robert Baker, issued the following statement:
“The university became aware of a possible compliance issue involving a football student athlete. We have looked into the matter and communicated with Big 12 and NCAA officials and found that there were no violations.”
Crabtree was cleared for practice and for Texas Tech’s season opener against Eastern Washington University.

thank goodness all this got squared away. it would’ve done a number on my pre-season predictions if crabtree missed significant time. not to mention the fact that it’ll be good for him to have another full year of experience going into Cowboys training camp next year.
