I’ll be honest, prior to the whole Rutgers women’s hoops deal in 2007 I’d never heard of Don Imus. Apparently he’s famous, but that was news to me. Well, Imus has made the sports news again with his comments regarding Adam Jones’ decision to drop the nickname “Pacman”.

During a morning segment on his WABC radio show in New York, Imus was listening to a report from anchor Warner Wolf about Jones dropping his nickname, “Pacman.”

Wolf mentioned that Jones was arrested six times since he was drafted in 2005.

Imus then asked, “What color is he?”

“He’s African-American,” Wolf said.

“Well, there you go,” Imus said. “Now we know.”

After such degrading comments (granted, I don’t know the context), reporters rushed to the young Mr. Jones hoping to gain an equally controversial quotation but the corner formerly known as Pacman did not oblige.

Actually, Adam Jones’ comments confirmed that his mentor, Deion “Primetime” Sanders has flipped through his catalog of associates pointing out to Jones that prior to his joining MC Hammer in his “2 Legit 2 Quit” video, Hammer had offered the world these words of advice: “You’ve got to pray just to make it today.”

“I’m truly upset about the comments,” Jones said. “Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with African-Americans. I’m upset, and I hope the station he works for handles it accordingly. I will pray for him.”

Jones’ change of attitude is definitely exciting for this Cowboys fan.
