Can someone please put D Wade in your T-mobile Fave Five? We need to hear from him. After last night’s game 4 between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics, where Boston erased a 24 point second quarter defecet to go ahead 3-1 in the series, I’d like to hear what Wade has to say.
Chances are he’s not going to tell the media today that Kobe was the reason LA lost that game last night. I bet you won’t hear him questioning Kobe’s leadership and assertiveness. After all, how can someone who missed over 30 games this past season and who all but gave up on his team halfway through question anyone’s leadership? Oh wait, I remember now:
“Dirk says they gave us the championship last year, but he’s the reason they lost the championship, because he wasn’t the leader that he’s supposed to be in the closing moments. That’s because of great defense by us, but also he wasn’t assertive enough as a leader’s supposed to be.”
Now, I’m not trying to bag on Wade (although he’s in my most hated fave five). I’m simply trying to point out that superstars have bad games. All-NBA players will sometimes disappear when their teams needs them the most. All-stars and MVPs won’t always shoot a high percentage and score 35.
Had Dallas lost a game 4 in the finals after holding a 24 point lead my guess is that Dirk would be called soft, heartless, and lacking leadership on a lot of blogs and papers across the country. But you won’t read that about Kobe. Instead you’ll find most writers complaining about Vujacic. He was guilty of letting Ray Allen drive by him with 16 seconds left to score the put away basket (and of almost crying on the bench afterwards). And to add to the embarrassment, last night Kobe walked off the court before the final buzzer sounded. If you think Dirk wouldn’t have been blasted this morning for that you’re are absolutely crazy.
My point for this entry was not to critize Kobe’s performace or actions in game 4. It was simply to remind Dallas Mavericks fans that we have a superstar in Dirk. We have an all-nba player. We have an all-star. We have an MVP. And those sometimes have bad games in bad situations (excluding Jordan).
Can you dig it?
